Passerines

The most common type of birds, known for perching.

Passerines include more than half of all bird species and are distinguished from other orders of birds by the arrangement of their toes (three pointing forward and one back), which facilitates perching.

Passerines account for the majority of bird collision with land-based and offshore wind turbines deaths, but high population numbers keep passerines at low risk for endangerment. Wind farms kill far less passerines than other human-related causes, such as domestic cats or windows.
