Monitoring Datasets Discoverability Matrix

The monitoring datasets discoverability matrix (matrix) is an interactive tool that classifies monitoring datasets from already consented (or permitted) marine renewable energy (MRE) projects and research studies for six key environmental stressors. The goal of the matrix is to allow regulators, developers, and the larger marine renewable energy community to easily discover datasets from already consented projects that can be used to aid consenting processes for future MRE projects (see data transferability page for more information).

Instructions:

At the top of the matrix are tabs for each of the six stressors. Choose the tab with your stressor of interest, each has a matrix specific to that stressor.

Each tree will open with the stressor and receptors listed. You can zoom in on the text by scrolling to increase the text size, as well as drag to move the text within the box. Clicking on the dot opens up the next set of characteristics. When you have filtered through the matrix and are ready to view results, clicking on the text (i.e., "marine mammals" or "single device") will highlight your selection (which includes all sub-options to the right of your selection) by changing the dot to dark blue and the "View Results" button will now be highlighted. You can de-select any options by clicking on the text again, returning the dot to its default color.

Clicking "View Results" will open up a new window with your results. Results are sorted by baseline and post-installation monitoring, research studies, and key documents. The baseline and post-installation monitoring and research studies results are compiled from OES-Environmental metadata forms on past, current, and planned MRE project sites, test sites, and research studies. Key documents are journal articles or reports that have been identified as part of the evidence base for risk retirement for key stressors. At this time, key documents are not available for all stressors but will be added.

Clicking on any title within the results will open up another window with the associated metadata form or key document page. For baseline and post-installation monitoring, the dataset you chose will be highlighted. You can scroll up to read more information about the project or test site as well as access associated reports and articles or find the contact to locate additional data associated with the monitoring. For research studies, you will be directed to general research study and can find the contact to locate additional data associated with the study and a link to related publications. For both monitoring and research studies, you will need to have a Tethys account and be logged in to view the email of the associated contact. Key documents will take you directly to the document page with links to the full publication or report if available.

View the instructions document for more in-depth details and examples on how to use the matrix.
