The Tethys team has partnered with IEA Wind’s WREN Initiative to collect information, or metadata, on the environmental effects of offshore wind energy projects on marine animals, habitats, and ecosystem processes. By making this information available, Tethys and WREN aim to enhance transparency around environmental monitoring efforts to progress the global state of knowledge and advance the industry in an environmentally responsible manner.

Tethys has 11 years of experience hosting similar information for marine energy projects (e.g., wave, tidal) through the OES-Environmental Initiative. Annual updates will be sought from offshore wind project developers to ensure the information is reliable and accurate. If you would like to submit a project, please email tethys@pnnl.gov.
On 10 October 2023, the Tethys team hosted a public webinar to provide more information about offshore wind environmental metadata on Tethys! The webinar featured a live demonstration of the new tool, highlighted several major offshore wind projects around the world, and described how offshore wind project developers can contribute.
