The following species and their relevance as ‘reef-builders’ in the EEZ are discussed:• The bivalve shellfish European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis), horse mussel (Modiolus modiolus) and blue mussel (Mytilus edulis).• The annelids sand mason worm (Lanice conchilega) and Ross worm (Sabellaria spinulosa).
