The American Wind Wildlife Institute and National Renewable Energy Laboratory are hosting a webinar on Bat Behavior and Interactions with Wind Turbines on Tuesday, December 14th, 2:00-4:00 PM ET. This webinar will explore several research questions related to available technology used to study bat behavior, bat behavior near wind turbines, collision conditions, and potential improvements for minimization strategies. The webinar will include presentations and a facilitated Q&A from experts on bat behavior.
Presenters:
- Hypotheses of bat behavior: Emma Guest, Texas State University
- Bat physiology in relation to wind turbine interactions: Amanda Adams, Bat Conservation Internation
- BWEC Research Goals: Cris Hein, National Renewable Energy Laboratory
- New updates on behavior at wind turbines using thermal cameras: Paul Cryan, United States Geological Survey
- Bat behavior at other tall structures: Sara Weaver, Bowman Consulting; Brogan Morton, Wildlife Imaging Systems
- Machine learning to characterize and track bat observations from thermal cameras: John Yarbrough, National Renewable Energy Laboratory
- Using bat tags to track bats near wind turbines: Daniel Deng, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
