The Conference on Wind Energy and Wildlife (CWW) is an international conference and one of the biggest and most important conferences in the field. It brings together researchers, conservation scientists, wind industry professionals, government officials and NGO representatives from around the world to share their know-how and experiences and develop solutions to avoid, minimize, and mitigate the impacts of wind farms on wildlife, both onshore and offshore. It also looks into the opportunities to enhance nature when developing wind farms. This all promotes a collaborative approach to resolving the key issues faced at wind farms.
The conference takes place every two years and attracts a global audience. So far, there have been six CWW events since the inaugural meeting in Norway in 2011, followed by Sweden in 2013, Germany in 2015, Portugal in 2017, Scotland in 2019 and the Netherlands in 2022 – a year later due to Covid pandemic.
The 7th Conference on Wind energy and Wildlife impacts 2023 (CWW2023) took place in Šibenik, Croatia, 18-22 September 2023.
Experts on the impacts and opportunities of wind energy on wildlife from across the globe came together to Amadria Park Šibenik at the beautiful Adriatic coast and near the historic city of Šibenik to share their knowledge in a series of keynote talks, sessions and workshops. Field trips to onshore wind farms (several are nearby) gave the opportunity to see and discuss environmental solutions in practice for this fast-growing industry.
The conference was organized and presented by Oikon Ltd. – Institute of Applied Ecology, a leading licensed and accredited consulting company and research institute in the field of applied ecology in Croatia and the region with 25 years of experience, and Supernatural Ltd., a Croatian consulting company in the field of nature protection, specialised in assessing the impacts of renewable energy development.
