Buried Seafloor Cables
Buried Seafloor Cables
Buried Seafloor Cables are power export cables that are placed or buried beneath the floor of the waterbody. Cables are commonly buried to 1-2 meters depth using cable burial ploughs, tracked cable burial machines, burial sleds, or ROVs with burial capability. Burial provides physical protection for the cable and reduces the magnetic field that animals may encounter. A soft-bottom seafloor can be dynamic and shifting so there is potential for sections of cable to be dredged up in extreme weather, though cable routes can be designed to mitigate this risk. Burial in some sections of a cable route may not be feasible due to large rocks or protected habitat.
