Abstract
This paper presents a comparative survey of twelve wave energy conversion devices. Table 1 identifies the developer of each technology and indicates the largest scale at which each concept has been physically tested. Note that eleven of these devices are designed for electric power generation, and one (no. 12, DELBUOY) has been developed for fresh water production. For the electric power generating technologies in Table 1, “model” refers to a test where the device’s power conversion system was simulated, “prototype” refers to a test where the device actually generated electricity that was used locally or dissipated, and “demonstration” refers to a device that is connected to a utility grid.
