Abstract
There is a growing interest in marine energy development around the world, but the industry is still in its early stages, with only a limited number of small-scale deployments thus far. One significant challenge lies in understanding and mitigating the potential environmental impact of deploying and operating marine energy systems on aquatic animals. To address these challenges, many monitoring technologies and risk assessment tools have been developed or are currently in development. This chapter delves into several of these technologies, such as biotelemetry, passive acoustic monitoring, active sonars, and autonomous sensors, to underscore their significance and practical applications.
