Abstract
This introductory chapter provides background on the benefits of marine renewable energy (MRE), the importance of measuring environmental interactions for all deployed devices, and the stressor-receptor framework. Chapter 1 also summarizes the work of OES-Environmental and introduces ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) as an MRE source that has not been addressed in previous OES-Environmental work.
