The Genoa office deals with various research activities and topics:
- Development of analysis and monitoring systems for the evaluation of the effects of anthropogenic impacts on the marine environment (marine ecotoxicology, marine litter, environmental biosensors, development of standards, environmental monitoring);
- Industrial and maritime eco-sustainability (biofouling and antifouling technologies, biodeterioration and biocorrosion, industrial biosensors, water treatment);
- Corrosion and protection of materials, surface analysis and monitoring of degradation in marine environments, conservation of cultural heritage;
- Biology and conservation of polar and Mediterranean marine fish fauna (diversity, ecology, evolution and adaptation;
- Oceanography, meteorology and applied marine technologies (monitoring, acidification, acoustics, air-sea interactions, modelling).
The facility is equipped with microscopy systems, a climate chamber, instruments for ecotoxicological analysis, instruments for electrochemical, bioelectrochemical and surface chemical-physical analysis studies, a molecular biology and cytogenetics laboratory, a marine experimental station and a meteorological-oceanographic buoy.
