As part of the Pacific Ocean Energy Trust's Ocean Renewable Energy Conference (OREC 2021), OES-Environmental hosted a free, online workshop on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 10:30am-12:30pm PDT.
This workshop examined the scientific evidence from key stressor-receptor interactions to discuss risk retirement and move towards application in a regulatory context. Pacific Northwest National Lab personnel are creating a series of "guidance documents" that translate research and understanding into regulatory needs for permitting marine renewable energy projects. The workshop included presentations, discussions, and breakout groups covering the scientific evidence bases and ability to retire risk for underwater noise, electromagnetic fields, habitat changes, and changes in oceanographic systems, as well as an overview of the guidance documents and their application in permitting processes.
