In preparation for the 2024 State of the Science Report on environmental effects of marine renewable energy, OES-Environmental gathered subject matter experts online to engage in discussion regarding social and economic effects of marine renewable energy and collect feedback and information. The expert forum built off the 2020 State of the Science chapter on Social and Economic Data Collection and discussed current trends in social and economic research, the challenges with standardization, how regulatory requirements can make social and economic assessments more effective, and recommendations for marine renewable energy. The expert forum was invitation-only.
The feedback and input received from the expert forum was compiled and incorporated in the 2024 State of the Science report chapter on Social and Economic Effects of Marine Renewable Energy (draft report to be released in May 2024 for public review, final report to be released in September 2024).
